Has anyone set up the "Advanced Video" DRC mode and "CineMotion" 3/2
pulldown on their Sony TV? I have not and don't really understand, just
from reading what the manual says about it, what it would accomplish for me.
But I am sure some of you know.

In the video menu, under "Advanced Video", there are settings for "DRC
Mode": High Density, Progressive & CineMotion. These are supposed to
"create a high-resolution picture with 4X density, for high-quality sources
(i.e., DVD player, satellite receiver)" according to the manual.

But it says that "Advanced Video is unavailable when you have selected Mild
picture mode, or you are watching 1080i, 720p and 480p sources with Video 5
to 7 inputs." Those are the inputs for HDTV cable box, DVD player or other
source that uses component cables or (for input 7) DVI cable.

So, the "Advanced Video" would not apply to any HDTV program or, apparently,
any input from my DVD player which I have set to "480p & 16:9". I suppose
it would apply (be available), then, for analog signal that comes into the
TV via the VHF/UHF cable input (the "TV" choice of inputs) and/or 480i
sources from the digital HDTV box (i.e., SD programming). Right?

I don't really understand why the manual talks about "high-quality sources"
when those seem to be exactly the sources that the "Advanced Video" doesn't
apply to. It would seem only to apply to low-quality sources, actually. Am
I missing something here?

If one of you has set this up, please pass along to me what you did and what
you get out of it.

The DRC is really intended for sources like analog OTA, composite video, and
S-video sources, etc. Lets you optimize those signals to your taste, but
really doesn't apply to digital/HD sources.
