I have been battling this for a while now and am running out of ideas
I am trying to clone an installation of Small Business Server 2003 on a Dell
PowerEdge 1850. I followed the tutorial from Microsoft to do this. I created
an image, then used sysprep -dc -reseal to prepare this for duplication. I
then copied this image to an external USB drive using Norton Ghost. When
either the syspreped machine or one with a cloned image are rebooted the OS
fails to start SetUp. Instead I get the error messages:
"Security Acoounts Manager Initialization failed because of the following
error: The value provided was an invalid value for an identifier autthority.
Error Status 0x00000c84 ....... "
and
"An error has been encountered that prevents Setup from continuing.
Windows is unable to start because the registry cannot be updated ........"
Interestingly if I minimize the master image to be just the basic OS
without any options: Exchange, etc. (I only use the first disk of the SB2003
install and do not reinsert the CD to install the extra componts or Outlook,
SQL etc. ) the cloning process is successful.
If I install only those options that must be installed ie not Exchange,
Client IE, Outlook, then the process also fails.
Does anyone have any ideas what the problem is? Any input appreciated
