Did you ever try and play one of the ones in japanese?
I was sent one of the green ones so I could see what it looks like. A fun thing
to play with from time to time.

No, the cancelled ones are real, and meant for the first Japanese line
(Japanese box art exists). They would have branched off into new stories:
Orange was about Pokemon farming - it had Oddish on the cover; Brown was
about running a gym; Purple was about joining Team Rocket to steal people's
Pokemon; and Pink was about training a Clefairy or Jigglypuff.
Unfortunately, ROMs haven't turned up for any of them.

I see "Pokemon - Platinum Version" on outdated release lists every now and
then, but this was a working title for both Crystal and the new Pearl.
There are a couple other weird pirates too - there's a "Green Version 2",
which is apparently identical to the first one, and a "Gold Version 2",
which is just a relabelled version of that stupid "Pokemon Adventure" game.

No it is one of the first ones. In Japan the first colors where red and green
rather then red and blue like here in the USA. But as it was done in Japanese
character writeing not many of them make it to the USA.
That is also why the two main characters in the tv shows started out with two
diffrent color hats and the like.

Yeah, I bought a half-translated Yellow at a flea market before it came out
for real here... had 99% gibberish and 1% gratuitous use of the word "damn"
:)

Untrue.

That'll be fake.

Seriously, now. Think about this. Would you really enjoy a Pokémon game
where most of your time was spent in a gym battling other people? Even the
Stadium games had events aside from battling. How would a game where you
play a Rocket even work? And Pokémon farming - does that sound like a
feasible addition to the Pokémon RPG catalogue?

If nothing else, though, does "training a Clefairy or a Jigglypuff" really
sound like anything other than a vague connotation with the colour Pink to
justify the claim that those games exist?

> Unfortunately, ROMs haven't turned up for any of them.

That'll be because they don't exist.

> I see "Pokemon - Platinum Version" on outdated release lists every now and

As far as I recall, it was never a working title for Crystal, and we learned
of the name "Pearl" at the same time as we discovered there would be new DS
games, so I can't see any window in which it would've been called
"Platinum".

Unsurprising.

For the record, the list of (English language) Pokémon RPGs currently
available is Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, Fire
Red and Leaf Green. Emerald, Diamond and Pearl will presumable be
translated and released with those titles.

In Japanese, there was also Green, which is all but identical to the English
Blue. The Japanese also had a game which was effectively Red and Green but
with updated visuals, and this was called Blue.

I would imagine that this would be a sort of gym management simulation,
if it existed at all.

For Christmas I got this controller with 76000 bootleg games (mostly the
same ones repeated with slightly different suffixes). My stepbrother
(who got it for me) said the Arab-run mall kiosk he bought it from
disappeared a few weeks later and suspects the money went to fund terrorism.

I presume he means "poorly." As in "All your base" poorly.
