Hi, my first post :)

A crossfire configuration i hope to build soon will consist of the Sapphire X1950 XT-X Crossfire Edition 512MB GDDR4 PCI-E and slave Here and Here slotted in to a Abit AW9D-MAX Intel 975X (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard Here My question is will this build using the Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) be able to play the latest games ? i do have a Duo / Abit AW9D-MAX based PC for my work, but now want to build a high end gamer/crossfire, any advice appreciated, thanks in advance

Thank you for replying, my thinking was i already use a Sapphire X1950 XTX 512MB in my work PC (work is 3D graphic design) and i thought the same in cross fire would be good but upon your advice i will need to re think or maybe wait for the next ATI cards to be realised as i did want to try crossfire, PSU was going to be Enermax Galaxy EGA1000EWL 1000W Here i use a OCZ Gamexstream OCZ700GXSSLI 700W in my present PC, and thank you for the links i will continue to read :D

just STFU. i would really expect better from you than that crap about 30% boost. seriously, wtf is with that, i wish i could find the most likely inquirer article which stated that number and people keep regurgitating it.

every game is different but in my experience if a game benefits from it it will most likely be 50% more FPS if not more.

why do people keep coming out with that 30% rubbish. any test that comes out with that number must have been done on a 17" lcd.

The 30% figure comes from people using benchmarks like 3Dmark05 and 06 in default settings, that is, 1024x768 or 1280x1024 with no AA or AF.

Run in 1920x1200, with x16 AF and x8 or x16 AA, and you WILL see an 80-90% difference between single and dual card.

Over 50% FPS sounds good to me (but i am researching every thing before i buy, so don't listen to me I'm just learning :)

30% is the average. Don't get all hasty over a simple question.

uh huh, so you are saying you get 30% average better perforamance in every game. seriously, this pisses me off that people try to discourage people from buying a dual GPU setup by saying you only get 30% more frames when you do not, you can get far more.

it is like people think there is a law stating that by doubling the power you only get 30% back. when your system is really stressed it is closer to the 100% rather than the 30%.

i cannot believe that someone who has 2 GPU's would say that, perhaps its just me but i like to correct mistakes.

From what Ive seen dual GFX cards never give benefits of 30% in games unless theres some pretty serious CPU limiting in there. Benchmarks (synthetic and in-game) usually show either 80-90% benefit or no benefit due to some bug or incompatability (and these bugs are often worked out in either driver patches or game patches).

The only way I can imagine 30% benefit is if someones strapped a celeron 2.7GHz to a pair of 7800s/X1950s and looked at the results, or if they average the scores from 3 games in which only 1 worked properly in the dualGFX setup.

And @CyberBabe:
When are you planning to build this system? If you are wanting a crossfire system it might be an idea to wait until R600 is released, as even if you dont want the r600 it should knock prices down across the board (X1950s are still pretty expensive due to how they are still ATIs flagship card). Due to this crossfire X1950s arent really a good option for price/performance right now.

The fact that some games didn´t support SLI/crossfire at release ruins the average percentage.

The R600 doesn't come out until May or later, and a single 8800GTX will walk all over a pair of X1950XTXs. If you're willing to wait until May, I'm sure the R600 will be amazing, but for the time being don't go throwing your money away on a high end ATI setup.

Well, MSY in Melbourne just went 'out of stock' on them. Guess I'll just have to watch the F1 on TV. Maybe they'll have some more tomorrow.
