I was wondering if it is possible to have the data from a 4x250 GB RAID 0 array mirrored on a 2x500 GB RAID 0?

With this setup I would expect the performance of 4 drives in RAID 0 when reading data, and 2 drives in RAID 0 when writing data. Is this possible/common?

I just read that RAID 1E allows for an odd number of drives. But I could not verify whether it offers the same performance as RAID 01.

Also, I've never seen an on-board controller for RAID 1E. Is it possible that a motherboard rated for 1/0/0+1 could handle 1E as well?
