Blank DVD-R recognized as CD-R

I have a DVD-R/CD-RW drive and a USB DVD-RW.
When I insert a blank DVD-R, the drive changes to CD-R and shows an error
message.
Any sugestions?
This had worked before. I think a windows update or software installation
changed the driver environment.
Thanks,
André.

It is not unheard of that CD/DVD media gets mislabeled. It
is also possible that the drives have been corrupted.

Examine the disk and compare it to a known DVD to be sure it
was properly packaged. Use a magnifying glass if needed to
read the inner ring data around the hole. Look at the edge.

If the DVD is a DVD, use the device manager to remove the
drives and controllers and reboot (refresh the hardware) to
get the drivers reinstalled.

It may be software-related. I have a Plextor combo drive, using Nero version
6. If I don't select the type of media I plan to use up front, the software
will sometimes give me an error.

I uninstall some software, applied xp sp2 again and didn't work.
I uninstall all drivers (CD-RW and DVD-RW) and reboot the machine.
This worked. The DVD-RW is now recognizing a blank DVD.
Thanks.
