Streets and trips requires a com port in order to us a USB GPS. Whenever I
try to install a com port Device Manager shows a yellow exclamation point
and of course the GPS cannot work. Does anyone know what the usual suspects
are that may prevent installation of a com port? (Windows XP, SP2. Office
XP, etc.)
If added in safe mode no yellow exclamation point but when rebooted it
re-appears. Solution?? Repair-install doesn't do it.
thanks

you need to re-read the instructions
your serial com ports are *not* a USB connection

Of course it isn't. The GPS works fine via a USB port, unfortunately
Microsoft Streets & Trips requires a working com port. Re-read the
instructions.

What do you need to plug into the com port if it works in the usb. Explane a
little better. Do you have your coms turned on in the bios.

Is there a COM port on the machine?? Most newer (laptops) doesn't have on,
in which case you need a PCMCIA (PCCard) to get one. You can't install such
a thing without the hardware for it....
