Hi - I have a smartphone that was setup to sync with Exchange server before.
Now that I am not with the company anymore therefore no longer have access to
the exchange mailbox. My device still has all the contacts records that I
would like to keep. I tried to setup ActiveSync on 2nd computer to copy the
contacts record out to my Outlook. But if I keep the existing partner and
make that computer a 2nd sync partner then the only folder availble is the
Tasks folder. I hesitate to remove the existing partnership, which is with
the Exchange server that I have no access to, since I am not sure I can
continue to access the contacts records on the device after the changes.

Hi
Start by creating a full backup before experimenting... this way you can
allways get back...

Good Advice !!. and to add... the partnership should have nothing to do
with the contacts database. you "should" be able to delete the existing
partnership without any ill effects on the data.

Thank you for the input. I do have a problem backing up the data because the
computer that has setup to sync with the device is belong to the previous
employer and now I have no access to it also. So my only option now is to
setup a new computer to be the sync partner and that got me stuck. I worry
that any changes I made might erase the data. So I will have only one try.
Is there any safe procedure that I can follow to make sure the data is
preserved?
Thanks

you can first connect the device to the new computer as "guest" and still
perform a back-up. you might also check on your device under "programs" as
many mfg's include backup software on the device itself, which you can use
to backup to a storage card.
