You do not need both the box and the card.

It depends upon whom you bought the extended from and what the fine
print says. Generally, I am becoming a firm believer in extendeds on
plasmas due to their relatively short lifespan and susceptability to
failures (based solely upon my own experience in the showroom and from
feedback from our techs). Great choice, BTW, as far as plasmas go :-)
