Hi all,
I have intel pentium 4,2Ghz,Nvidia Geforce 6200 ,256MB AGP,motherboard-->intel D865perl
and i have 768MB RAM in the following configuration.
Memory Mode:Single Channel
Channel A slot 0--->512MB DDR 400
Channel A slot1---->256MB DDR 400
Channel B slot0---->none
channel B slot1 ---->none

I am using Windows Vista and looking for upgrade my RAM upto 1GB.
Should i buy only 256MB DDR 400 more?
or
if i sell my existing 256MB DDR and buy 512MB so that i can make a dual channel mode of (512MB+512MB) but i have to pay 12$ more.

what should i do,is dual channel is better? if its better than how much? Please guide me properly.

don't think you're gonna see any perf. gain with dual channel mode, but "windows prefers" when you have equal amount of ram in each channel, so get 512mb stick.

Why are you planning to upgrade? Does your system need more memory and is slowing down? I know Vista takes up so much memory like 300-400Mb for idling. That 512 and 256 should be good enough. Move that 256 to Slot B 0. Like Assman mentioned dual channel is not much for performance gain.

Games are running pretty fine and smooth in Windows XP but in Windows Vista games performance is not smooth thats why i am thinking of upgrade my memory from 768MB to 1Gb

Since it sounds like you have a very limited budget, and there is no guarantee that more RAM will fix your problem, I would just stay with XP and wait to upgrade to Vista until your next computer.

Yah i also think the same why waste money if every latest games like(fifa 2007,Cricket 2007,MOHAA) are working fine in Windows XP.But Windows Vista is also running smoothly except the above games. :lol:
