I need to return my current Maxtor Diamondmax 10 250 Gb Sata 1 hard drive because I got that click of death. I am planning on buying a new hard drive, most likely this one --> http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2268595&Sku=TSD-320AS

I'm really not sure if it'll work because it's a Sata 2 and my motherboard is a Sata 1.

Also if anyone knows about any free hard drive cloning programs so that I won't have to install everything again, it'd be really great.

I have an Asus P4P800 SE mobo.

Thanks alot, any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is a good choice, i have one!

It should come shipped with a jumper defaulted at sata 150 anyway, mine did. It should be fine :D

Not sure about any programs though...

Splendid
All SATA 2 hardrives that I have used were backward compatible with SATA 1, needing me to nothing special in using them.

I don't know of any free cloning programs.

If you have not already bought that one, Fry's has a 400gb/16mb cache Seagate retail box version on sale right now for $99.99 (no rebate and free s&h):

Can't beat getting 80 gig more for less $!! :D

As to free cloning software, I have had good success using the Seagate's free SeaTools, which will come on a cd in a retail box or you can download the lastest version from Seagate's web site.
