What I'm interested in is the type of setup you have, what your settings are(bios), and what type of cooling you are using. From my signature you can see my current stable overclock. I'm running a swiftech waterblock and a single 120mm radiatior with a push pull fan configuration. My vcore is at 1.5v, a 284mhz fsb, x13 multiplier with my memory running at 473mhz or 946mhz effective.

In my sig.. you can also find a thread over at Xtremesystems detailing the steps I took.

It's cooled by using a VERY efficient Thermo-Electric setup. I used two radiators (Black Ice Xtreme II and Black Ice Xtreme) as well as two pumps (Eheim 2250 and Swiftech MCP655) as well as a Swiftech MCW5002-775T Waterblock.

Works 100% stable.. no issues.

Jesus that's one hell of an overclock on a QX6700. Why are you wasting such a good CPU on that dated pair of graphics cards?

0% for the moment heh i will doit some day. no need.

I'm in the same boat.

I suppose I'm not as much of an enthusiast as I thought I was. Once I built it, and it ran everything I wanted so very well, I lost motivation to OC.

Well to be honest, I did play with OC a little bit, but I have very little (read: none) experience. I have a striker extreme and was trying in the very early bios days (0402). When the computer got a bit unstable I backed off and have it running stock right now.

I figure down the road once some programs/games start taxing it, I'll look into OC'n it. Then hopefully I can follow some cookie cutters of the braver (and smarter) ones that have gone before me!

1000% agree with you u238. i have revision 1002 bios i can go 3.4 without any problem, i just had to adjust the memory timings a little. but since for the moment theres no real gain since already at stock speed kick a$$ for the moment, i will see how good this rig is until crysis comes out yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!! 8O

How did you get that?
I have Asus P5W DH and BIOS 1901 and I cant get the multiplier above 10! and 10 is stock??? Whats the point of an unlocked multiplier if it cant go higer than stock?

Please tell me there is a way round this or I am doing something wrong.

That's damn sweet man. checkin out the link now. I've gotta improve my ocing skills to try and get close to that...It's all about the quality parts put together. Are you gonna put an R600 or 2 on there?

I ran into the same problem with the newer bios updates put out for the p5w dh deluxe. You can only use the 1506 bios to get the unlocked multiplier. Unfortunately, it's a bit of a pain to reflash it back to the 1506 bios if you've already upgraded to the newest bios, 1901. You need an older version of Asus Update, I think it's 6.1001. I don't know where to get it, but I have all the files you need to flash your bios with the proper version. It's a pitty that Asus hasn't fixed this problem yet. If you need those files I can set up an ftp link for you. Just send me your email through the IM deal here at Tom's Hardware and I'll hook you up.

Hey there, I found the fix figured I'd share it with you. Little info first, I got the new bios, 2001, and flashed it. Rebooted and it gave me the option of up to 20x multiplier so I shot for 12x just to see. booted into windows and sadly it was still stock. Tried using the AI overclocker in windows to go to 11, rebooted and it bumped it down to 6x! Checked the bios and it's back to 10x max.

So I got motivated to find the solution and long story short here it is:

Download bios V 1506 from here:
ftp://anonymous:*****@dlsvr02.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socket775/P5W%20DH%20Deluxe/P5WDH1506.zip

Then get an EARLY version of Asus Update, v6, here:
ftp://anonymous:*****@dlsvr02.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/flash/AsusUpdt61002.zip

Start Asus update and go to Options, check "Bios downgradable" then hit next to save. CLOSE THE UPDATER! Then reopen it and do the "normal" reflash with v 1506. This time it'll let you! You're golden from there, I'm running a "weak" 2.94ghz on an 11x right now.

Good luck!

His graphics cards maybe a few months old (6) but he has a better picture - ati always looks better, crisper and cleaner.

Why is he wasting it? You get no lag with x1900 in crossfire - 97% of all games run a near max res

ati fan boy!

4ghz is overkill ... how long will a cpu last at those speeds even if it's cooled .. ?

It will last almost as long as a processor with stock frequency. The thing that degrades processors is voltage.
