Hi There,

ASUS Commando 0803
Coolermaster Stacker 810
C2D 6600 with stock cooler
Running 32bit Vista

My first question is should my motherboard temp be higher than my CPU temp?

My C2D 6600 is currently running at stock and at idle my Motherboard temp in PC Probe is 29C, The system setting in Speedfan which I think is the same as motherboard also shows 29C. All this while the CPU from PC Probe shows 22C.

My understanding, (please correct if I'm wrong)
Tcase = CPU setting in Speedfan, Also called CPU in PC Probe.
Tjunction = Core0 & Core1 in Speedfan.
Tjunction = CPU(0) Digital Temp and CPU(1) Digital Temp in TAT

Right now at idle Speedfan shows Core0 = 22C, Core1 = 20C
and CPU = 24C. I thought from the guide that the two core temps should be 15 degrees higher than the CPU temp?

Thanks,

It's very helpful if you first test your system as shown in the Guide under "Testing" then provide "Results" and Variables" also as shown:

Quote :

Results

Tcase (Motherboard Utilities) = XXc Idle, XXc Load (SpeedFan 4.32: CPU or Temp2)
Tjunction Hottest Core Only = XXc Idle, XXc Load (SpeedFan 4.32: Core1 / Core2)

Variables

Ambient = Room Temp
Chipset = Model
C2D = Model
CPU Cooler = Model
Frequency = CPU Clock
Load = Test Program
Motherboard = Model
Vcore = CPU Voltage

This depends greatly upon Vcore.

Your understanding is correct.

Correct again. Your core temps are simply "offset" but you haven't provided enough information for an accurate analysis. Please test your system and post the info, so I can give you a proper answer.

Hope this helps,

Hi Comp,

Here are my results:

Results

Tcase (Motherboard Utilities) = 24c Idle, 45c Load (SpeedFan 4.32: CPU or Temp2)
Tjunction Hottest Core Only = 23c Idle, 47c Load (SpeedFan 4.32: Core1 / Core2)

Variables

Ambient = 20c
Chipset = 965P
C2D = 6600
CPU Cooler = stock
Frequency = 2400
Load = TAT
Motherboard = ASUS Commando
Vcore = 1.30

My motherboard temp went to 32c under the load.

If I need to do an temp offset adjustment can I only do this in Speedfan? My core 0&1 temps in Speedfan are about the same as in TAT.

Thanks,
Tim.

Your motherboard temp is fine, but Tjunctions are obviously offset by -15c, so use the "Offsets" section of the Guide to configure SpeedFan for a +15c correction for Core0/1 temps.

Corrected Results:

Tcase (Motherboard Utilities) = 24c Idle, 45c Load (SpeedFan 4.32: CPU or Temp2)
Tjunction Hottest Core Only = 38c Idle, 62c Load (SpeedFan 4.32: Core1 / Core2)

As you can see, Tcase + ~15c = Tjunction, so your temps now make sense, and conform to specs and "Parameters".

Hope this helps,

Thanks Comp., I think I'm finally getting a handle on this.

I was wondering why both Speedfan and TAT report the temps offset by -15c?

Tim.

Troubleshooting

(D) Any hardware and / or software may misreport Tcase and / or Tjunction temps.

(E) 965 chipsets may misreport Tcase and Tjunction temperatures with +/-15c offsets.

Hope this helps,
