Hi,

I'm new with the memory issue, and I'd like to ask:

Currently I have a pair of Kingston 1GB (2x512) DDR2 PC-4300 533Mhz. If I replace them with the 667Mhz ones (with the same capacity, 1GB), will I get significant performance boost?

My spec:
Pentium D 930
Intel 955XBK mobo
Gigabyte GeForce 7600GT 256MB

thanks in advance

Not a significant boost, it'll hardly be noticeable. The only reason you should replace perfectly good ddr2-533 ram with 667 or 800 is if your going to be oc'ing. thats where the extra speed will really help!

So maybe the better solution is to add 1gb more instead of replacing the old ones. Hmmm...

Thanks for the input :)

Yeah, another 1gb of ram would be a much better buy.

Since your Pentium D is only running a 800MHz data rate FSB, it only needs DDR2-400 speed RAM running in dual-channel mode to saturate its throughput. DDR2-667 on up are pretty much only useful for OC'd C2D CPUs.

DDR2 > 667 could be usefull if he pumps that FSB up A LOT.

OR he could probably lower the times to say 3.3.3.8 T2.
