First, I appologize if this is in the wrong area, it seemed to fit here.
Also, sorry for the long post, but Information is golden.

On to the mess.

2 computers:
1 lap top, 1 desktop.
Cabling:
Coax out of the wall -> Desktop's coax card(?) (Desktop is online)-> Ethernet out of the same card -> Laptop's Ethernet (Laptop online).

A friend of mine asked for assistance setting up her wireless. No problem I thought. Over the phone  I quickly got her computer to connect wirelessly to her router. A Belkin 54g. See Link.

That step is working as confirmed by accessing the router wirelessly via the laptop. I could not, however access the internet with the following setup:

Now:
Coax from the wall -> Desktop's card (Desktop online) -> Ethernet out of same card on desktop -> Belkin 54g (internet jack) -> wireless to Laptop (Laptop can connect to router, not to the Internet.)

When accessing the router's main page, it informs me that there is no Internet connection. This doesn't surprise me given that I can't get online.

What I have tried:
First, I ensured that the PC was establishing a connection. That was a go. Lan connected. Even pulled a 192.168.0.1.
Next I checked the connection to be sharing internet. Who knows. At this point I sure don't. That was a no go.
I next connected the router via a LAN port, not the Internet link up. Somehow that made sense at the time. Still no dice.
Deciding that the Ethernet cable may be a flawed idea, I moved on to the PCs wireless card, hoping to establish a connection via that. If its even possible.
For some reason the wireless card was not registering as wireless. IE under properties, it acted "funny". I turned on wireless zero config, went to the properties, but it acted like a LAN connection, not wireless. She looked behind her computer but could not find the telltale signs of a wireless card. I kinda hit a wall there. Very confused. Being defeated there I decided to move on.
IN the router, you can change Internet connection settings. SO, with this in mind, we hooked back up the ethernet. The PC was pulling a 192.168.0.1 on this connection so I entered the following for Internet Connection Info inside the router.
First Screen:
IP address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Next screen asked about DNS servers.
On the PC I ipconfig /all to see If i could get the info from her Coax Card. No dice, till I noticed that the "Wireless" device had a public IP, like a computer hooked directly to a cable modem. Also it had DNS info, the whole shibang. I started to think this was mislabled and may be the mystery cable connection. Especially since there was no wireless card according to the back of the PC.
We put in THOSE DNS servers to the router and hit next.
Router starts to input data, reboot yadda yadda. Then it locks up. Couldnt access anything. A quick reboot of the router fixed this, but the settings had not saved. Rather then try again, I gave in.
Exhausted, I raise the white flag.

And so I come to you all, broken and battered, 2 1/2 hours later hoping someone can help me ither fix it or confirm it FUBAR before I proceed furhter.

Sorry for the lengthy post, and all assistance is GREATLY appreciated.

Any further questions, please ask.

Disable DHCP on the Belkin and use a local port instead of the Internet port.

What service do you have that requires a cable modem card and not a external modem.? :?

All that does is make it difficult to connect multiple computers.
