Toshiba 1800 laptop
Windows 2k

This system was attacked by virus and much spyware and
could not connect to the internet as a result. I cleaned
all known spyware and viruses but could still not connect
to the internet. I tried a "repair" with a Win2k Pro CD
and now the system hangs when "registers components" gets
almost half way through.

Odd note, when it is installing COM+..., it asks for a HP
Memories Disc (hpmdinst.msi) to be inserted. The people
at HP cust srv "think" it may have been bundled with some
of their hardware but have no idea which. I simply press
escape to get by this request. (it pops up once more after
pressing ESC)
