I am having problems with my Realtek gigabit ethernet card. When my computer is cold booted (i.e. off for more than 2 hours) the ethernet card is not recognised as installed, it shows up in the device manager as uninstalled. If the computer is left to run for a few minutes and then restarted the ethernet card shows up and operates correctly.
I have tried reinstalling the drivers and reinstalling windows but to no avail. Does anybody know of a solution to this problem?
Also, occasionally the card will stop working in the middle of network activity. It will work again if the card is disabled and re-enabled, or if the computer is restarted.
Any help solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I have the newest drivers already and the card is built in to a laptop motherboard so its not possible to try it in a different slot.
I would have it replaced by the laptop manufacturer before bothering to do heavy troubleshooting. If you have the right drivers for your laptop, it should work.
I know of gigabit cards not working correctly with Cisco equipment, but I haven't heard of them showing up as uninstalled.
