Windows XP Slow after dcpromo

I have an environment with about 30 stations windows XP
SP1. About 10 of those stations are having major
performance problems accessing word documents from the
server(fpserver). Originally they were accessing a
server called filesrv but I dcpromo the new one first,
made it a catalog server and then dcpromo the old one
down.

I am not sure why is this happening. I reviewed one
user's regitry and it still had pointers to the old
server. Once I removed those pointers it worked fine.

Any clues?
