Hello

I have a LG HSA 22N DVD writer and a Gigabyte P965-DS3. Do I need the audio link from the DVD onto the motherboard? I was told by a PC store that I don't need it anymore, as the new IDE cables carry the sound. Just want to confirm this.

Thanks

Check your mobo and LG manuals. If the LG is OEM, go to their website. This can be done and a while back I tried it. I think the problem I ran into was that you had to have it set to digital out put and I have my sound card running to my receiver and have to use an analogue out put but not absolutely sure that was the problem but I did have to go back to using a wire connection.

Most newer MB and drives don't use or require the audio cable. I haven't used one in years.
Best of luck.

Well, I tested it out and it didn't require one - thank goodness.

Would I need an audio cable if I have a PCI sound card?

Nope

Uhhh, if it helps, I have a PCI Sound Card, and 2 optical drives. I do not use an audio cable for either one.

As others have already said, I don't think they are used anymore. GL!
