Replace a primary domain controller?

Does anyone know the best practices for replacing a pdc?

I have an old Windows 2000 server which needs to be
replaced with a new server and new installation of
Windows 2000 server. I have two domain controllers in the
mix and I believe the one that Im replacing is the PDC
even thought Active Directory doesn't give me a clue as
to which server is PDC or BPC.

Should I demote both servers and redo then entire network
or is there a simpler way to do this?
