I have IPAQ hx4705.
From PPC, using browser with protocol ftp://server... I can get small files;
however, for a few hundred MB file, a warning pop up message: not enough
space even though I setup to download to 2G CF card. And then, the
downloading was terminated.
Have you ever seen the same problem?
Thanks,
-vbh

A check through the newsgroup archives would show you this has been posted
before.
Use a CF reader/writer for large files.

Hi Alan,

I could not find a related topic. If you can, please forward to me.
Of course I can use card reader/writer for CF; however, the problem is FTP
for large file.

Thanks,
-vbh

Chances are the browser is downloading to the temporary internet files
location before copying the file to it's final destination. Unfortunately
your temporary internet files location is in main memory, so it's main
memory that will limit the size of files you can download, regardless of how
big your storage card is. A dedicated FTP client probably wouldn't have the
same behaviour, so it might be worth trying one of them, if you have to
download large files direct to your PPC.

I don't maintain newsgroup archives. google has archives and a search
facility that *you* can use to find information *you* want. As I said there
have been several posts confirming failure of large file transfer through
activesync. The solution is that already given to you.
Good luck.

think the problem is that you are attempting to use pie to download the
file which will default to the RAM as the download location and I don't
think there is a way to change that for PIE defaults.

If memory serves, there are ftp clients for the ppc... google for

Would really like to keep this forum open and welcoming to all posters
in whatever posting format they choose to use and of whatever level of
newgroup experience they have.

To the OP of this thread, it's not a problem for me and almost all other
responders to follow even long complex threads in formats which break
all the "rules" as it's not a factor with modern newsreaders.

This is especially important for anyone using mobile devices to post or
respond as posting the "standard" format wreaks havoc with small screens
and slow connections.

imho, the important part of the experience here is the content and the
community, not the format of that content.
