I'm trying to upgrade my system to windows 2000 (currently
using Win 98), but during the upgrade process I receive a
Winnt32 error message...
"Winnt32 caused an invalid page fault in module
kernel32.dll at 01bf:bff8836d"
I've turned off all anti virus programs (McAffe) and all
unneeded programs and tried the upgrade again and still
the same error?
I start up windows 98, pop-in the 2000 upgrade cd and
select to upgrade. It runs through a few promts and
product key page and I select to use NTFS file system and
it starts checking system files and about 90% through
the "Generating Upgrade Report" process the error screen
comes up? Any ideas what's going on. I don't want to have
to do a clean install. I'd like to keep my programs.

Usually this error is caused by certain software packages installing DLLs
that crash the upgrade process. Check for software listed in KB article:
252725 Upgrading to Windows 2000 Causes Invalid Page Fault in Kernel32.dll
with (http://support.microsoft.com/?id=252725) and follow the instructions
for resolving the conflicts.
Some other software packages known to cause this problem are:
Marketmax Space Productivity Manager
Logician
Storm Technology EasyPhoto Imagewave
Simply uninstall these packages and the upgrade should progress normally.
