Hi,

I want to connect a ps3 to my monitor. only when i connect a dvd drive (just to test), i get no sound cos my monitor doesnt come with speakers (they're usually crap anyway). so i have a subwoofer and 2 speakers that are currently connected to my computer but how do i connect these to a ps3? will i need to buy a 2.1 amplifier and if so, what should i look for when choosing one? any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I'm not sure how the PS3 outputs it's sound, but if it's just RCA jacks, can't you use an RCA to headphone jack adapter and plug it into the LINE IN on your sound card/onboard sound?

the speakers are just some crappy jvc ones from a stereo which ive connected to my subwoofer which came with my old computer (made by Time systems). say the ps3 does have the RCA, wouldnt that mean that i would need have my computer running if im to get sound from the ps3? this i would rather not do - i would rather connect directly to the monitor. ps3 has optical output and hdmi and ive got hdmi on my monitor so wouldnt this be the only way? ive seen on some forums that you cant have optical and hdmi running the sound together, you must send the hdmi from the ps3 to the amp and then connect the amp via hdmi to the monitor - or something like that! so this is probably a dumb question but can i not just connect headphones directly to the ps3 vis some jack?

otherwise i was thinking of getting a 7.1 amp with hdmi, like this one: http://www.pioneerav.co.uk/vsx1016vs-channel-receiver-with-hdmi-silver-graded-stock-p-77.html

with some 7.1 speakers like these:

will all this be compatible?
