And I have no clue what it is.

When I play warcraft 3, my computer will eventually go schizo. Everything will run perfectly for a while, and eventually - sometimes after a day or two of no reboot, sometimes after 3 hours of no reboot, my screen will start to lag and then end up like this:

Now, I've reinstalled my video drivers, reinstalled warcraft three, and neither of those has done anything. My Video card is running at 44C [it's an 850xt] and Windows XP looks regular when I close wc3. I cannot run any other games after this happens until I restart, it will result in an error. If anyone has any clue what might be messed up, please help me to understand because this is causing me a lot of grief. Thanks for your time and input.

Try another game, let us know the results. If another game works fine, it's clearly a driver conflict with Warcraft 3.

I hate trying to fix driver conflicts. My best suggestion if that's the case is to do a reformat and try to take notes of things you install or do differently so if your system goes ape again, you'll be able to pin point what it was.

the gamer in me says its related to the fog table settings of your video driver.

the graphics guy in me says downsample graphics before posting online.

Ok, so once it happens and I try to run a new game I will get an error. I am starting to think that for some reason my fans don't work on my video card unless I tell them to. The reason being is that after I made the post, I ran ATI Tool and cranked up my fans (it said they were at 4%) to 40% and after about ten minutes I ran Warcraft again, and everything was back to normal. Normally, I would have to restart my computer so this is the first time I've gotten it to go back to normal without a reboot.

Um.... your video card is always going to overheat if you don't run your fans at a decent power level. I would say that 40% is probably not sufficient unless you have a really good heat sink on there.

Aside from the possible overheating issue, you probably should tweak the graphics settings a bit, for some reason the picture looks to me like its only having issues with one particular layer in general. Someone suggested possibly a driver issue with the fog layer, who knows for sure... but you should try another game just as someone else suggested. We mean, try another game before the problem occurs. Meaning, boot up and load something other than warcraft III and see if it will give you the same kind of problem.

It really depends from card to card what is acceptable to run on fans, come to think of it it probably depends on your cases airflow too. My 6800GS runs at default 53% fan speed but thats like comparing apples to oranges right?

@ the OP certainly crank up the fan speed if it fixes the problem. Fans can run at 100% speed for years without damage so it should be at negligible risk to your card.
