2001: integrated graphics on a Dell Pentium 3 systems with Windows Me and 128MB of 100mhz SDRAM non-ddr. YIKES! Still operational today.

2004: Radeon 9600SE. Didn't know what either Radeon, 9600 or SE meant at that time. Realized SE stands for Sorry Excuse in the following year. Overclocked it like a madman which led the card's GPU and fan to die in 2006.

2006: Radeon X800XL. Added a phat cooler a couple weeks ago and runs like a charm. Am satisfied.

If we only count actual 3D video cards, then I guess I could try at this...[*:7c0708bcba]Some cheap Voodoo knockoff - Had 4MB of RAM, was PCI, and was sufficient for D3D 5, so I could, say, run Jedi Knight with hardware acceleration. Don't think it supported actual 3dfx Glide, though. Had it with my Pentium 233MHz about 10 years ago.
[*:7c0708bcba]S3 integrated crap - Though the system (an AMD K6-III OC'ed to 500MHz) was much newer, it reverted to some incredibly poor integrated graphics. Really couldn't handle anything.
[*:7c0708bcba]Radeon 7000 - Handled StarCraft well, and was the best I could get in PCI form. Actually, it was much better than the very first card. Replaced the above integrated.
[*:7c0708bcba]GeForce FX 5200 - PCI version, it was decent, and went into my current system, an Athlon64 2800+.
[*:7c0708bcba]Radeon 9600XT - This replaced the FX 5200, but didn't sit there long; I had already ordered the next card, and was waiting for it to arrive, when this went in.
[*:7c0708bcba]Radeon X800XT - My current card. I've had it for about 2 years now. Works like a charm to this day, and I don't plan on replacing it before I get a whole new system; it's AGP, anyway.

Ooh fun time. I thought it'd be neat to list my processors at the time as well...

1997-1998
P233
Diamond Stealth something or other

1998-2000
P233 (oc'd 266 lol)
Creative Labs S3Savage4 (32mb) PCI

2000-2002
Athlon 1Ghz
Geforce 2GTS (64mb) AGP

2002-2003
Athlon 1400
Nvidia Ti4400 (128mb) AGP

2004-2005
P4 2ghz, then 2.6ghz
Radeon 9700 Pro (128mb) AGP

2005-2006
P540 3.2Ghz
Geforce 6800 GT (256mb) AGP

2006
P805D (2.6-3.5ghz depending on mood lol)
Geforce 7900 GT (256mb) PCIx

2007
C2D e6600
2nd Geforce 7900 GT SLI FINALLY!!!

As you can see, since 2000 I've either stayed on top or just below the top teir stuff. I swear I was the first one in the UK to posess that Athlon; I got it as soon as it came out that year. It was a sweet Gateway system (my only prebuilt, all others were custom rigs) and I was stationed in Cornwall at the time. Didn't even have cable internet! I was pwning ppl in Q3 at 33k lol. I was lucky if my ping even got down to 100...

Anyhow I'll probably rock the C2D and 7900's until 2008 when I'll probably go up to the 8800's and quad core (unless AMD/ATI "bring it" again :) :) :) )

I can't remember that far back. What was in a Commodore PET? :)

more recently, I've had

Riva TNT2
Geforce2 GTS
Radeon 9700 Pro
Radeon X1900XT

As you can see, I don't feel the need to be on the bleeding edge. Maybe I'll try an 8800 when they drop in price by a couple hundred.

I just loved 3D (and performance) ever since my first Voodoo card. Wow, that was a BIG step for pc gaming.........

I've just been dying to ask a current/former FX5800 user (other than those "PC experts" in Neverland)--just how unbearably loud was it? Was it really that bad?

Oh, and WHERE'S THE VOODOO CARD YOU MENTIONED AFTER THE LIST THAT'S NOT ON THE LIST? (EDIT: Forgive my blindness on that one, heh I see the Voodoos now)

Okay, now for my list:

1. Trident 9475CXi VLB version (some unheard of custom revision, possibly worth something as nobody knows what the heck it is! The 486 PC was illegally sold to my parents, unfortunately we did not find out till 2 years afterward so I can't even say for sure. I've looked all over the web for a pic, but cannot find one ANYWHERE that matches it!)

2. S3 Virge 7751 PCI, the 1MB version.

3. SiS 530 integrated GFX (DX 7)

4. GeForce 4 MX420 PCI (bought for the unit with the SiS530, but it wouldn't work. Still using this card in an old build though)

5. ATI All-in-Wonder 128 PRO 32MB AGP 4X (still using in a PC my church has)

6. PNY GeForce 4 4200Ti 64MB AGP4X (a friend "borrowed" and the !@#$ never returned it--that is one of the fastest cards I'd ever seen it was hard to believe...)

7. Inno3D GeForce 6600 256MB AGP 8X (currently not in use, had in my current PC, doesnt work in the pc that uses the AIW card above...)

8. The one in my sig...

I have also purchased and played with the SiS 305 32MB PCI card, which did work in that SiS chipset based mobo but wasn't much of an upgrade, also used another Trident VLB card before it busted and used a friend's card to replace it (#1 on the list).

11. Geforce 4400

Really? That one was pretty rare...how was it compared to the 4200Ti since I can't find any specs on it?

when nvdia launched the ti 4600

it launched with the t1 4400

there was no 4200.... it came a lil later

yeah overclocked...the 4400 was just like a 4600 stock for cheaper

sweet card.

Hmm... I don't normally go for threads like this but this one has me thinking. Oh and as you may guess from the list - I've never been a gamer!!!

- Cirrus Logic 5446 PCI
- Some Abit card based on a SiS 6205, but it connected over 'VGA Port' interface (not ISA, PCI or AGP - no idea about it and never seen it since)
- nV GeForce2 MX in my G3 PowerMac
- ATi Rage 128 32mb (my first AGP card!!)
- Mad-Dog GeForce4 MX440 64mb
- GeForce4 IGP
- ATi Radeon 9200SE 64mb
- nV GeForceGo FX5200 (worst. card. ever.) in my PowerBook (best. computer. ever.)
- Intel GMA950 in the Mac Mini

S3 integrated

Nvidia MX4000 - didn't know anything about graphics cards, and this was like 2-3 years ago

ATI 9600se - How I learned so little, at least it had transform/lighting

X1600pro - *sigh* well, it's the best decision on graphics cards I've ever made, though that's not saying much

Heh yeah, I remember my brother got the GeForce FX5200 256MB AGP card because he knew it had to be the most awesomest deal in the world because the AGP was 8x and the memory was 256MB, and that's up there with the other more expensive awesome video cards (sadley I agreed with him about buying it at the time. Man, I've learned so much, but so much more to learn...)
