More about post video card lineage
  1. Rage II
Radeon 7000 <--- Was awesome for starcraft :)
    9250
    X700pro AGP
    6800Ultra <--- Currently in use
    7900GTX x2 <----- Currently in use
  2. 2001: integrated graphics on a Dell Pentium 3 systems with Windows Me and 128MB of 100mhz SDRAM non-ddr. YIKES! Still operational today.

2004: Radeon 9600SE. Didn't know what either Radeon, 9600 or SE meant at that time. Realized SE stands for Sorry Excuse in the following year. Overclocked it like a madman which led the card's GPU and fan to die in 2006.

2006: Radeon X800XL. Added a phat cooler a couple weeks ago and runs like a charm. Am satisfied.
  3. If we only count actual 3D video cards, then I guess I could try at this...Some cheap Voodoo knockoff - Had 4MB of RAM, was PCI, and was sufficient for D3D 5, so I could, say, run Jedi Knight with hardware acceleration. Don't think it supported actual 3dfx Glide, though. Had it with my Pentium 233MHz about 10 years ago.
S3 integrated crap - Though the system (an AMD K6-III OC'ed to 500MHz) was much newer, it reverted to some incredibly poor integrated graphics. Really couldn't handle anything.
Radeon 7000 - Handled StarCraft well, and was the best I could get in PCI form. Actually, it was much better than the very first card. Replaced the above integrated.
GeForce FX 5200 - PCI version, it was decent, and went into my current system, an Athlon64 2800+.
Radeon 9600XT - This replaced the FX 5200, but didn't sit there long; I had already ordered the next card, and was waiting for it to arrive, when this went in.
Radeon X800XT - My current card. I've had it for about 2 years now. Works like a charm to this day, and I don't plan on replacing it before I get a whole new system; it's AGP, anyway.
  4. eh... i had a few

I just loved 3D (and performance) ever since my first Voodoo card. Wow, that was a BIG step for pc gaming.........

    Matrox Mystique

    nVidia Geforce 4 Ti4200
    Radeon 9550
    nVidia Geforce 6800
    nVidia Geforce 7800 GT
  7. Ooh fun time. I thought it'd be neat to list my processors at the time as well...

    1997-1998
    P233
    Diamond Stealth something or other

    1998-2000
    P233 (oc'd 266 lol)
    Creative Labs S3Savage4 (32mb) PCI

    2000-2002
    Athlon 1Ghz
    Geforce 2GTS (64mb) AGP

    Athlon 1400
    Nvidia Ti4400 (128mb) AGP

    Geforce 6800 GT (256mb) AGP

    2006
P805D (2.6-3.5ghz depending on mood lol)
    Geforce 7900 GT (256mb) PCIx

    2007
    C2D e6600
2nd Geforce 7900 GT SLI FINALLY!!!

As you can see, since 2000 I've either stayed on top or just below the top teir stuff. I swear I was the first one in the UK to posess that Athlon; I got it as soon as it came out that year. It was a sweet Gateway system (my only prebuilt, all others were custom rigs) and I was stationed in Cornwall at the time. Didn't even have cable internet! I was pwning ppl in Q3 at 33k lol. I was lucky if my ping even got down to 100...

Anyhow I'll probably rock the C2D and 7900's until 2008 when I'll probably go up to the 8800's and quad core (unless AMD/ATI "bring it" again :) :) :) )
  8. haha
  9. I can't remember that far back. What was in a Commodore PET? :)

    more recently, I've had

    Riva TNT2
    Geforce2 GTS
    Radeon 9700 Pro
    Radeon X1900XT

As you can see, I don't feel the need to be on the bleeding edge. Maybe I'll try an 8800 when they drop in price by a couple hundred.

waiting on R600 or 8900 so i can play vanguard maxed out (i hope)

I've just been dying to ask a current/former FX5800 user (other than those "PC experts" in Neverland)--just how unbearably loud was it? Was it really that bad?

Oh, and WHERE'S THE VOODOO CARD YOU MENTIONED AFTER THE LIST THAT'S NOT ON THE LIST? (EDIT: Forgive my blindness on that one, heh I see the Voodoos now)

    Okay, now for my list:

    1. Trident 9475CXi VLB version (some unheard of custom revision, possibly worth something as nobody knows what the heck it is! The 486 PC was illegally sold to my parents, unfortunately we did not find out till 2 years afterward so I can't even say for sure. I've looked all over the web for a pic, but cannot find one ANYWHERE that matches it!)

    2. S3 Virge 7751 PCI, the 1MB version.

    3. SiS 530 integrated GFX (DX 7)

    4. GeForce 4 MX420 PCI (bought for the unit with the SiS530, but it wouldn't work. Still using this card in an old build though)

    5. ATI All-in-Wonder 128 PRO 32MB AGP 4X (still using in a PC my church has)

    6. PNY GeForce 4 4200Ti 64MB AGP4X (a friend "borrowed" and the !@#$ never returned it--that is one of the fastest cards I'd ever seen it was hard to believe...)

    7. Inno3D GeForce 6600 256MB AGP 8X (currently not in use, had in my current PC, doesnt work in the pc that uses the AIW card above...)

    8. The one in my sig...

I have also purchased and played with the SiS 305 32MB PCI card, which did work in that SiS chipset based mobo but wasn't much of an upgrade, also used another Trident VLB card before it busted and used a friend's card to replace it (#1 on the list).
  12. Nvidia Pine TNT 2
    Nvidia BFG fx5200 ultra
    ATI Asus x9800xt
    ATI x850xt
    ATI H.I.S. x1950xt ICEQ3 turbo

    11. Geforce 4400

Really? That one was pretty rare...how was it compared to the 4200Ti since I can't find any specs on it?
  14. My cards...
If I remember it was something like this:
    ... - 1996
    # What was in Commodore64? :)

    1996 - 1998 --> P166 8MB
    # ATI Mach64 1MB

Really? That one was pretty rare...how was it compared to the 4200Ti since I can't find any specs on it?

when nvdia launched the ti 4600

it launched with the t1 4400

there was no 4200.... it came a lil later

yeah overclocked...the 4400 was just like a 4600 stock for cheaper

    sweet card.
  16. Hmm... I don't normally go for threads like this but this one has me thinking. Oh and as you may guess from the list - I've never been a gamer!!!

    - Cirrus Logic 5446 PCI
    - Some Abit card based on a SiS 6205, but it connected over 'VGA Port' interface (not ISA, PCI or AGP - no idea about it and never seen it since)
    - nV GeForce2 MX in my G3 PowerMac
    - ATi Rage 128 32mb (my first AGP card!!)
    - Mad-Dog GeForce4 MX440 64mb
    - GeForce4 IGP
    - ATi Radeon 9200SE 64mb
    - nV GeForceGo FX5200 (worst. card. ever.) in my PowerBook (best. computer. ever.)
    - Intel GMA950 in the Mac Mini
  17. S3 integrated

Nvidia MX4000 - didn't know anything about graphics cards, and this was like 2-3 years ago

ATI 9600se - How I learned so little, at least it had transform/lighting

X1600pro - *sigh* well, it's the best decision on graphics cards I've ever made, though that's not saying much
  18. Heh yeah, I remember my brother got the GeForce FX5200 256MB AGP card because he knew it had to be the most awesomest deal in the world because the AGP was 8x and the memory was 256MB, and that's up there with the other more expensive awesome video cards (sadley I agreed with him about buying it at the time. Man, I've learned so much, but so much more to learn...)
  19. incredible cirruslogic it can handle 256 color yeeeeeeee still have this one

  21. Diamond Stealth S60
    Radeon 7500
    Radeon 9200
    Radeon 9800pro
    Radeon X800XL

as well as various crappy integrated solutions.
  22. Little tidbit, I usaually keep my cards for awhile, the 6800xt was owned for aproximately 2 weeks b4 i got my current card
  23. Fuzzy, don't quote me on these:

    Ati Rage 128
    Voodoo3 3300 PCI
    Voodoo4 4500 AGP
    Geforce4 Ti4400 (R.I.P.)
    GeforceFX 5200
    Geforce 6800 Ultra PCIe
    Geforce 7900GS

Now just have to figure out what comes next...
  24. Pretty much everyone has owned a GF5*** series card. Pretty much noone has anything good to say about them.

Anyone like the GF5???? At all????
  25. Matrox Mystic
    Monster 3D
    Mega-Monster (two monster 3d's)
    Radeon 9200
    Radeon 9500
    Radeon 9800
    Radeon X800XT
  26. Starting with MY first computer (as opposed to my parents computers that I used):

    TNT2 16MB
    Geforce 2 64MB
AIW 128 (spent about 10 minutes in my computer but it killed my Geforce so I pulled it and intended to stick it into my first decent spare computer...never happened)
    FX5200 128MB (big mistake)
6600GT (currently in my backup rig)
    7900GT (my current gaming rig)
  27. Here we go:

    ATi Pro Turbo 64

    XFX Nvidia MX 4000

ATi Radeon 9500 Pro (got messed up)

    ASUS Nvidia FX5800 (sold)

    ATi Radeon 9700 <-current
  28. ?-2004 (bought from local builder)
    unknown integrated
    unknown intel processor

    2004-2006 (emachines)
nvidia integrated + radeon 9550 se
    athlon xp

    2006-present (my first build)
    geforce 6200
    athlon 64 X2
  29. For on board I like Intel Graphics .. stable and good drivers plus they are good for notebooks .. for cards let the list speak for it's self

    1. unknown
    2. unknown
    3.unknown
    4. Ati Rage pro (on board ) - drivers made me so mad that i never plan to get another ATI card
    5. Intel (on board )
    6. Nvidia 5200
    7.nvidia 5750 (pci E)
    8 Nvidia 6600
    9. Nvidia 7900

all other are going to be Nvidia as well unless nvidia F**ks up good. but i do have to say that the drivers for the ATI tv tuner 550 are good so i might go back but unlikely.
  30. Hahaha GF5*** lol, never had one but some of my friends did... Didn't like em much... IMO The ATI 9*** was beast over them... I skipped GF6***, how were they in comparison to their ATI counterpart??

ATI 7000 <-- Still have it in a box...
ATI 9250 <-- Still running with my Athlon 2200+
ATI x700 <-- Was goin to replace the 9250, but I didn't feel like replacing PSU , so I returned it...
    Nvidia 7900GT <-- Current card..

Next Card <-- Plan on goin ATI again, not that the 79 was bad Im just partial to ATI, and twards AMD.. plus Im really anticipating r600

Im not so rich and I don't work, so I don't have alot to buy cards..
  31. Nice thread!

Mine is as follows, with the Memory Size/CPU speed/Memory in brackets to show how far things have moved on:

    Voodoo 1 (4MB/50MHz/50MHz)
    Voodoo 2 (12MB/90MHz/90MHz)
    Voodoo 2 in SLI - Quake 2 at 1024x768!!
    Geforce 256 DDR (32MB/120MHz/300MHz)
    Geforce 3 TI200 (64MB/175MHz/400MHz)
    Radeon 9700 PRO (128MB/325MHz/650MHz)
    Radeon X800XL (256MB/400MHz/1000MHz)
    Radeon X1800XT (256MB/625MHz/1500MHz)

Far, far the most impressive purchase of course was the Voodoo 1. It was truly amazing to see Quakeworld in OpenGL for the first time compared to software 3D.

Hmm, just noticed that I bought 3 3dfx, then 2 Nvidia, then 3 ATI. Must be time to switch allegiances again :)
  32. 1. Trident ****(can't remmeber that model)(4 mb)
    2. Intel I740 8MB
    3. Nvidia TNT M64 32 MB

  34. * some onboard crap with my 16 MHz macintosh
    * some onboard crap with my AMD K6 rig
    * ATI 9600 PRO
    * ATI x1950 PRO

Waiting for R600 unless it sucks, in which case I switch to nVidia 8800 or 8900....
  35. 1. Onboard Rubbish in a Dell 486 SX25
    2. Diamond Stealth 64 VESA local bus(great decision that one)
    3. Matrox Millenium
    4. Diamond Monster 3DFX Add on card (this was awesome at the time)
    5. Some kind TNT 2 thing(cant remember)
    6. GeForce 2 GTS (I stuck with this one for ages, I guess I was broke_
    7. ATI X800 XT AGP( as someone said earlier, I'm hanging on to this one until I build a new system)
  36. I still have a GeForce 4* MX in use...am I disqualified?

    * denotes horribly inaccurate naming convention on the part of Nvidia

    Rage Fury 32MB
    Radeon DDR (original 32MB)
    R8500 64MB

  38. I have quite a weird lineup

voodoo 3 16meg <-- For tribes on a IBM aptivia, never could get it to work lol

voodoo 4 32meg <-- 3dfxGlide, how do i miss it, bought for UT the original one

Nv geforce 2 64 <-- Loved it, burnt it out OC though

    Nv Geforce 4 4200ti 128 <-- Burnt out aswell ....

Nv FX 5700 256 xfx <-- still works, My all time favorite card dont know why.

    ATI 9600 256 < funny story, \/

NV 7600 GS 256 eVGA <-- So i hated my ATI, i went to the store and i thought hmmm...... Thats a good price on a 7600, so i bought it. Soon i got the bright idea of removing the stickers and putting them on the Ati card. Returned the ati card and got a free 7600!

And these puppys should be coming in 2 days.

    mmmmm

    2 XFX 7950gt 256 SLi.....

XFX grew on me after my fx 5700
  39. Trident ISA card... no idea how much RAM. Hazard a guess at 1MB?
Creative Riva TNT PCI 16MB. Blew me and my brother away. Shipped with a copy of Forsaken, which we never got to play since I was 9 and he was 10.
ELSA Erazor III Riva TNT2 32MB AGP 4x card. Oh yeah, baby. My brother got a GeForce 2 MX400 64MB for his rig. My dad had an ATi Rage IIc 8MB(don't ask - horrible).
Some abysmally crappy Hercules Prophet II something-or-other card. Only card I've ever owned with a HSF.
ATi Radeon 9000 64MB DDR. Loved this one, served me well for a couple years. Played Halo and other "new" titles decently.
ATi Radeon 9250 128MB DDR. Again, played games like FarCry and Republic Commando decently.
Integrated GeForce 6100 w/ 128MB shared RAM. Oh, the horror. Can't wait to get another card (hopefully an 8600 Ultra this summer).

The guy didn't notice the red (or atleast not green) PCB of the ATI card? Damn, you're lucky. Unethical as hell, but lucky.
  41. Ok here is I am sure the shortest list ever considering I have had a pc for 9 years. I dont count the 8088 that I shared with my mom.

    Ok I started with:

Voodoo 2 (dont remember the specs) then
Geforece to 32MB card and now the current one I have
    Ati 9600 I belive.

  43. I've owned a Geforce MX4000 too. I wanted to play ET but my Nvidia TNT2 wouldn't work on it. So I went to Wal-mart and the card was like 80$ so I was like this has got to be good.
