Is it possible to run one of these on a board instead of using two? I have one of the SL5D3 2MB 900mhz. I am purchasing a board that I hope works with it (SLOT 2) off ebay. I realize that I have to pair this with the same CPU if I have to use both but any help will be great. Thanks.

You say "a board" which is sort of vague, but as a general rule you do not have to pair xeons, even on a dual-socket board. One CPU should be fine.

Ya i found a old dell poweredge slot 2 4400 server board on e-bay so I was going to use that. Was just wondering if I could get it running with-ought using two of these cpu's since they need to be matching cpu's and they cost a crap-load.

no I think you can not do that

it is a server mainboard, you have to use two same cpu ,it cant work only one

The board can work with one CPU but if it's a slotted CPU, I think there is something that is inserted into the slot to tell the system that it is running a single CPU. I've seen this with HP Servers and Kayak workstations, I am probably wrong on the slot thing but I don't see why you would need to have a pair of CPU's.

ok great, like i said this version has to run both the same cpu's if I did run two of them. its the SL5D3 model 900mhz-100mhz-2mb-2.8V.
