This is a bit strange, but when I run PC Wizard it tells me my processor is running at 255*C, which would be impossible, as the motherboard under it will melt. I haven't overclocked my PC, it came straight from HP with the E6600 and in fact I haven't opened the case yet.

Call HP, and if they are no help then come back here i would say, maybe something is faulty and you can send it back?

But first, i would check the temp in your BIOS, to make sure its not a software error...

Use Intel's Thermal Analysis Tool or Everest from Lavalys and see what they tell you. You are correct that the processor could not be 255 degrees and remain safe.

I had the same problem on my system (E6400, MSI P6N Platinum) with PC Wizard. I freaked out at first, but checked the BIOS, SpeedFan, and Intel Thermal Analysis Tool which all gave me the same reading of about 30c. Not sure what caused it in PC Wizard, but something is goofy.
