Hello, i just upgraded my rig within the last few days and i'm troubled to see that at stock speeds (on all components) i'm getting 45C 8O as my idle temp!

i'm using a Scythe Ninja on a 965p-DS3, how in the world can it be this high? i was about to start overclocking procedures but i needed to check the stock speeds for reference and later comparison, what gives? anyone else post something like this? (i'll search for that after this post  )

Never took temps of previous configuration, it was a p4 3ghz system.

Anyway, i came up with this now:

Currently:
E4300 290FSBx9 = 2610Mhz (2.61ghz) @ 1.3250v
Corsair XMS2 DDR 2 800: 4-4-4-12 @ 2.1v (so its at 580 MHz...DDR2 800, a bit overkill i suppose)
no other voltages changed
Thermaltake XaserIII Case

Running Orthos Blend Test @ 20 minutes:

Core Temp 0.95:
Core #0: 68C
Core #1: 86C

SpeedFan 4.32

Temp 1: 54C
Temp 2: 51C
Temp 3: -2C
HD0: 46C
Core #0: 54C
Core #1: 54C

Idle at the moment:

Core Temp 0.95:
Core #0: 47C
Core #1: 47C

SpeedFan 4.32

Temp 1: 54C
Temp 2: 27C
Temp 3: -2C
HD0: 46C
Core #0: 32C
Core #1: 32C

Does this look normal? first time overclocking and i wouldn't want to kill my CPU. i am aiming to go to 2.8ghz solely to be 1ghz over stock hehe, 3ghz in the future.

You're sitting just below 70C after you factor in Speedfan being about 12-13C below TAT (TAT reads correctly on 965P boards). 70C is the temperature where your processor is starting to get on the warm side, you don't want to be any hotter than that at all. Your other temperatures seem to indicate that you don't quite get enough cool airflow throughout the case.

I would suggest reseating your HS, there's no way it should be that high. I've never installed a Scythe Ninja before so I don't know if there are any tricks to it, but double, and then tripple check everything to make sure it's on properly.

Also how high is the room temperature?

Room temp is at 22C. i think i'll reseat the HS and post about any changes later in the day. if i open up the case while its running i can get an easy 4C drop in temp. thinking i should mod the case a bit, such as changing the plexiglass siding into a mesh so hot air can escape. i also think that the PSU is contributing a lot to heat since it (650W Antec Trio) blows straight down on the HS. i was thinking of flipping it upside down temporarily to see if that does anything...but the damn screws wouldnt line up then, haha. would that affect the PSU anyhow? (if it doesnt affect it negatively, i can add an exhaust fan above the PSU when it's upside down (yay for case mods). i'll be changing the case fan characteristics soon, because i am fairly certain the PSU, case fan and possibly bad HS seating are the problem, lets see what i can do.

and oh yea, i now have it at 2.8ghz (312 FSB) and the temp actually dropped by 2C on Temp2, Core0, and Core1. strange. i've been switching between 2.6 and 2.8 and 2.6 is always hotter!? is that something or what?
