Hey, Im looking for a USB or PCI solution to use to convert home videos on VHS to DVD. I would input the video thru Svideo or Composite, and the Audio thru component.
Cost isnt really an issue, I just want the best quality.
Ive read up on this card and It seems to be great, its got TONS of inputs, dual processors, and a good brand name. One thing is that there are 2 versions of the card, one manufactured by Samsung and one by Phillips. The Samsung SUX and the Phillip rocks. Everyone who got the Samsung seems to be returning it. How would I tell If I got a Samsung? Does it say it on one of the chips?
Also, Ill be running XP Home. I dont plan on watching/recording TV on this though. Should this be an issue ??(WinXP.) ? It also says that I need a compliant dvd software decoder. Would PowerDVD 6 /5 be fine?
Lastly, this card seems to be HUGE. This should fit though in a Antec P180 though, right?
*ALSO* needs a sound card, will my Bluegears Benspirer work with it? There might be some internal connection btwn the Sound card and the Hauppauge card.
I saw the 500 and the brain switched to TV tuner. Sorry. The Saber has S-video in. I like it better for the fact it uses pci-e slot, so it has dedicated bandwidth. How about an ATI VIVO card, or strictly a capture card if your not going to use the TV tuner? Here are a couple of other considerations:

Cost isnt really an issue. This is going to be paid for by my dad. I just want what can give me very good quality off of component audio and svideo. I dont care about not using the TV tuners. Have you had any experience with Hauppauge Computer Works, or any of these products?
None of the new stuff. They changed the TV tuner chip on the recent issue of the 500 and the quality of the picture just hasn't been there, since, so I haven't paid them much attention. Several folks on these forums use Pinnacle -- pretty sure jaguarskx uses it. If not, he's got some basic level understanding of the issues involved with video capture and conversion. You might PM him and ask. I've got an HIS X1950Pro card with VIVO, and that's what I use for capture. It's got an ATI theater chip integrated on the card, so the quality is quite high.

They say that they are fixing that change,. Samsung bad, Phillips good.
If you get the phillips one its supposed to be quite good.
Read some of the Newegg reviews.
I dont care about the Tuner, although I think i the same hardware encoder would be used to encode video from a svideo or composite source though.
THe thing is, if I had such a card (500), I could attach a PS2 or Xbox to it and use my LCD as a monitor, and my headphones as sound. My LCD has composite input so I can use it for the PS2, but I need a Component Audio to 3.5mm converter to get audio. If I had this card it would be much easier.
Also, I could attach 2 XBOXs to the 500 and hook up my PC to my Home Theater using VGA Video and Optical Audio. Ive got a 93 inch 720p projecter thangy SO, then if I link the xbox's, I can get 8pp playing on the same BIG screen!
Anyhow, the priority is the VCR thing, Ill PM that Jaguar guy in a minute.
