Network Controller and PCI Com Controller question marks?

MY device manager in XP shows under "other devices" question marks (?) over the PCI Simple Communication controller and over the Network Controller. I tried to repair using the Microsoft service but was told no software could be found. How do I remove the question marks over both the PCI Simple Controller and the Network Controller? What do these question marks do to the performance of my PC?

Do you have a winmodem installed in your PC (that what PCI Simple Communication controller means) that needs to load its own driver? If you don't have any use for it (you connect to Internet by other means like DSL or cable), you can disable it without any problem to your system.

Drivers for your network card and modem aren't installed. Install them.
