Not having had to buy a new PC for a while, the changes that Intel has
made to their selections of chipset is overwhelming. I can find all sorts of information about all their various offering, and side-by-side comparisions of different chipsets, and even on some's through-put and benifits, but not all in a single location that would help ameliorate my concerns and offer meaningful information about what would best suit my needs. Any resources I may be missing that you could offer, or even just some opinions on the chipsets you're fond of? My only stipulations are it must be Intel, and support SMP.

Thanks!

Hello,
I purchased Pentium D 3.0 dual core 830 and it works fine except that it runs hot and is a known issue with this chipset. Idles at 50c and goes up to 68c with load. Had I known earlier I would have looked into others.

Best of luck

Do you really need to buy now? If you must have an Intel it is best to wait for the Conroe to come out. If you need to buy now I suggest that you go for and AMD with a Nforce4 ultra or sli chipset.
