Trouble with slipstreaming

I used Autostream in an attempt to create a Windows installation disk with
SP2. I went through the whole process and burned the resulting iso file to a
DVD. When I try boot the computer with the disk nothing happens. Any
suggestions?

The disk you create needs to made 'bootable'....a setting done before the
burn, I believe.

Okay I have been trying to get the autostreamed ISO file to a CD. I had to
move it to the new computer I was able to burn it to a CD-R with Sonic. The
BIOS is set to go to the DVD/CD drive, but it keeps getting bypassed and
boots up into XP home. Any ideas?

Are you certain you are using the "Burn Image" option rather than just
copying the iso file itself to disc? If you pop the CD into your drive from
Windows does it autorun and show you the install screen? If you can only see
a file called .iso then you will need to use the correct option in RecordNow
to burn an image.

If you burned the disc correctly then your BIOS might have a Fast Boot or
Rapid Boot (or some such similar) setting. If so disable it. If this is
enable you might find that the system boots too fast not giving your CD-Rom
device a chance.

Dan AutoStreamer reads the boot sector off the XP CD when it creates the ISO
so the ISO should create a bootable CD.

Hi guys. No the disk does not autorun. I can not find an option to burn. I
guess this project is on hold until I can get Nero that everyone is talking
about. I need to check the Fast Boot issue in your last paragraph.

Thanks for the pointers. Fay

It is now working I went out and got CDBurnXP 3. I am now looking at the
Windows Setup window on the new computer. A completed job is in the works.
Thanks to one and all. And yes the apps are cool! But the help here is even
better.

Good night. Fay

Using Nero Burning ROM at the top of the Window, click Recorder and choose
Burn Image...
Now you will have to locate the ISO file that AutoStreamer created. In this
example the ISO file was saved to the desktop. You should see the file
appear in the window, select the file and then click Open.

Click Burn and Nero should then start the proceedings for burning the image.

When booting from the CD, do you press "any key" within 2 seconds (there
should come a line text saying so at bottom of screen)? If not, it tries to
boot from the HD as usual..

Hi, Fay.

Congratulations!

But could you clarify one point? Was your successful boot from a DVD? or a
CD? I don't mean the drive, but the disk itself. I know WinXP can install
from a CD, of course, even in a DVD drive. But I've never heard of
installing it by booting from a DVD disk. In fact, I didn't think we could
boot from DVD at all, but maybe the newest BIOSes can support that.

If it can be done, I'd like to know - and I suspect many others would, too.

I am using a CD. I haven't done the install yet, but the disk does boot and
go into install mod. I will let you know if it works correctly in the next

It is working to the point that I have an autorun disk. I will try loading it
tonight and see if the original issue is solved, it ruined access to the
installed programs. I will post back and let you know. It has taken a while
to get to this point. I appreciate talking with you. I have learned a lot
with this issue. Thanks. Fay

It appears to have worked. Hooray I have only been at this since Tuesday.
The Windows Home to Pro upgrade happened in less then 45 minutes. Well
thanks for all the help I have to get the computer connected to the network
and the software loaded.
