So, my tax return will be here in the next week. I'll have about 1200 available for upgrades. I dont know wether to overhaul everything or pile money into the upgrades i can get and keep some stuff.

Heres what i have:

[code:1:8aa569a479]
Asrock 939Dual-Sata2
|---AMD 64 3000+ (venice core)
| |---Generic Heatsink that came with the cpu
|---512 MB DDR 400
|---512 MB DDR 400
|---512 MB DDR 400 (all 4 ramslots are in use)
|---512 MB DDR 400
|---256 MB BFG 6600GT-OC - AGP
|---Generic 400 watt PSU <------this needs to be replaced... im starting to get stability issues from cpu voltage fluctuation (also minimal 'new toys' connections - didn't even have sata connectors)
|---250 GB SATA2 16 mb hdd
|---120 GB SATA2 16 mb hdd
|---Lite-On CD/DVD R/RW/W

I also have a sound blaster audigy 2 value card that is sitting beside my computer - when i put it in it wont boot because of my crappy PSU.
[/code:1:8aa569a479]
[/code]

So with that all said, i have 2 free PCI 2.2 slots, 1 free PCI-E 16x slot, 1 ASUS CPU-Expansion slot

My requirements:

Dual Core cpu
2 GB of ram is fine for me
new video card (favorite game is supreme commander) (but only 1 pcie slot)

939 cpu slot

So, with that all said, who wants to make me a shopping list from canadian suppliers? (i live in winnipeg, manitoba, canada)

our best supplier i know of is http://tigerdirect.ca/

I'd recommend getting an Opteron 165 and overclocking the hell out of it. For GPU i'd look for something like the 8800GTS 320mb.

I'm not too sure on the motherboard - never used 939 myself.

Well, with some consideration, let me rephrase the question;

between my girlfriend and myself we have:

ASRock 939Dual-Sata2 - http://www.asrock.com/product/939Dual-SATA2.htm
ASRock K8 Combo Z - http://www.ocworkbench.com/2004/asrock/k8%20combo-z/g1.htm

AMD 64 3000+ 939 pin
AMD 64 2800+ 754 pin

4x Kingston 512 MB DDR 400
2x Kingston 512 MB DDR 333
2x Generic 512 MB DDR 400

250 gig sata 2
160 gig ide 133
120 gig sata 2
80 gig ide 133
40 gig ide 133

256 MB ATI 9800 All-In-Wonder-Pro (AGP 8x)
256 MB BFG 6600 GT-OC (AGP 8x)
|---Zalman Al-Cu heatsink/fan combo (attached to the BFG)

2 generic combo optical drives

400 watt PSU (generic PIECE OF SH.....)
525 watt PSU (3 sata connectors, dont know any other stats... sorry)

1 really nice case
1 shit-tastic case of spilled-coke-and-crackers-mixed-in-to-the-paint-job

1 1280x1024 LCD with dvi + avi
1 1280x1024 CRT with avi

Were ultimately looking for the best bang-for-the-buck 2-person upgrade. Between the two of us we have about 1800 available (however it works out parts wise).

I was thinking that both of us would end up with AMD 64 X2 3800+ socket 939's, that i'd get a pcie card (a 320 meg 8800 or so) and that she'd get an AGP card ( ati x1950 XT )

i'd get a new cpu/case and she'd keep the pretty one she has

we'd try to get her 2x 1gb sticks of ddr 400.

we'd try to get her 2x 500 gb hdd's; i'd take all the others.

we'd try to get myself a new 500-650 watt PSU (something with modular cabling).

any more advice?
