Tried uploading Directx 9.0c from the MS website several times. Each time the upload stops and states that DX 9.0 failed to install. I have all my system anti-virus programs turned off during each attempt. From what I can see is that it fails during (I think) the .dll files. Need DX 9.0 for AOE 3 that I purchased for the spouse this X-mas. My system is a DELL 2.4, ATI Radeon ddr 9700, (on mb) 256 ram (shared). Have posted to other website forms but have had no responses. Please help. Thanks!

First of all, you mean download.

Secondly, your hardware may not support this version.

Go to XP update site, (using XP "Windows Update" which you will find listed after you hit the "Start" button), to see if it lists DirectX 9.0 as a possible update to do. Use "Custom" to get a full list.

If so, let XP's update manager handle the download.

Search microsoft for Directx 9.0c redist (redistributable).

Instead of downloading and installing together, you'll download the file, then install locally to your computer. It tends to work better.
