the x2 3800+ that is 2.0ghz

what one is better im upgrading form a amd 64 3800+ yes it is a 939 upgrade

Do you overclock?

If so, get an Opty 165/170 and overclock it, they're BEASTS.

If not, the Opty you have picked out is 400Mhz faster and has double the cache of the 3800+ - and would clearly be faster.

The Opteron costs twice as much as the X2. Of course it is better.
Does it make sense to buy it though?
Both dual cores will run your system more smoothly than the single core you have now. Multiple activities can be done at the same time with little or no slowdown. Your system may not feel noticeably faster for single task usage, which is going to be most of the time...
