Hi all

I bought a Samsung HC-P4252W Widescreen HDTV, but soon afterward I realized
this doesn't support 720P mode.

Does anybody know which of the TV networks broadcast in 720P mode? Just
curious, as to what my TV is doing when it receives a 720p signal.

Thanks!

ABC, FOX, and ESPN are 720p. Your tv probably has an internal scaler to
scale 720p signals to 1080i for these stations.

Don't these sets actually display everything at a "native resolution"?
Maybe that's just LCD and LCD projection sets. I read somewhere in the
manual for the Sony KDF60XS955 LCD RP TV that it actually displays "768
lines of 1368 dots". Maybe I misinterpret what that means?

It depends on the display technology. DLP, LCD, and plasma have a fixed
number of pixels and you have to convert your signal to match that native
resolution. This particular set does not have a single "native resolution"
since it is CRT. It will display 480i/480p/1080i. If you're giving it a
signal via component video connections it needs to be one of those three
resolutions (unlike DLP which will scale all inputs to be 720p). However,
the built-in HD tuner should scale 720p broadcasts to display as 1080i.

ABC, ESPNHD, and Fox broadcast in 720p. Chances are that your TV converts
the signal to 1080i.

You'll typically find that LCD, DLP, and high-end plasma HDTVs natively do
720p. Tubes and rear-projection sets (not LCD rear projection) typically
only do 1080i. And low-end plasmas aren't HD at all, but are just 480p.

For example, the manual for the Sony LCD rear-projector KDF-60XS955 states
that all signals are displayed at 788p. 1368 dots X 768 lines.
