Need Help with new computer build

Hello all,

Ijust built my new rig. AMD 4800, lanparty UT nf4 sli-dr, maxtor 250GB HD, Turbo-cool 510 powered, 1024 DDR x 2, Aopen 7800 GTX.

I set up the dard drive with 1 partition of 250 like the manual said.

I have my cdRom set to the primary and my HD to secondary.

When I try and install windows xp pro. It goes to the point where I hit "enter" to start up windows, then lists this

"PFN_LIST_CORRUPT"

It happens over and over again. It recommends that I Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. I have tried disabling the caching part of it but to no avail.

Any questions or help would be wonderful as I don't feel like paying microsoft $35 bones for 2 questions.

I strongly urge you to put the hd on the Primary, and the CD drive on the Secondary.

Ken is on the right track. This is almost always a memory problem with that error message.

Next, go into your BIOS and go to the page where you can reset to defaults.

Next, with the help of a friend's comp, download Memtest; burn a cd for it; then test your memory for at least 4 hours. Take a look at the screen. If there are problem entries, shut down, remove one stick (remaining stick should be in bank 0) and fire it up again for four hours. Look at the screen. If problems, change sticks and test again.

If the ram checks out okay, then you may have a bad cd. Borrow somebody's to see if that works. If it does, use your key, not his. This is okay to do.

Oh and one other thing I forgot, with that board your memory needs to be in the first and third slot.

If u still have BIOS problems, try resetting BIOS configuration with jumpers to default settings.

Near the battery theres ussualy 3 pins, with a jumper. Look at manual, and try resetting BIOS by changing the jumpers. This works when BIOS becomes unworkable, or u think u messed it up.
