Hello,
is this possible to boot WIN 2k/XP from usb hdd?
I am using my company's notebook (IBM t41 with win 2k pro) and I can not install a good deal of software, as I am not an administrator (I will not be given admin account). That is why I decided to buy HDD and USB 2.0 external drive and to install WIN XP on that.
I scaned some forumz and it seems impossible?????????????
Regards,
Martin

Make sure you can get into the CMOS setup to allow booting from USB. It would be a waste to get everything setup and find out you can't affect the boot order...

s I am not an administrator (I will not be given admin account).

It is possible if the bios of the machine in question supports booting from an USB device. Check the BIOS. Most competent Admins will protect the BIOS with a password and if it is so in your case ask your admin the change the boot order to the following CD>ExtUSB>HDD.

Good luck.

If you made that little trick in the BIOS, i'll work fine (not as fast as an internal drive, but you won't fill it as much- I used to boot up linux from an USB drive).
