Having trouble configuring this properly and need help. Current config is: cable modem --> Linksys 1 -->laptop (wireless hook up).

Then, in the basement I have the following config: Linksys 2 --> gigabit switch ---> 4 x desktops.

What I want to do is to access the internet from the basement PC's. Linksys 1 is set to 198.168.1.1 and is the DHCP server. How do I config the Linksys 2 in the basement ???

Thanks.

Change the IP Address of Linksys 2 to 192.168.1.2, disable DHCP and run a CAT5 cable from a local port on Linksys 1 to a local port on Linksys 2 unless you want a seperate subnet in the basement.

Linksys 1 (192.168.1.1) is set to "Automatic Config - DHCP" with DHCP Server enabled.

Linksys 2 (192.168.1.2) is now set to "Automatic Config - DHCP" with DHCP Server disabled.

Both routers and all clients are on the same subnet (255.255.255.0)

I wish to use the wireless facility for communication between the routers, as I am in a 3 story building and do not wish to run Cat 5.

On the basement PC's, I'm using 192.168.1.1 as the default gateway. Is this correct?

You can't do what you want to do with 2 wireless routers. You need a wireless network bridge. You also try http://forums.linksys.com/.

The wireless should be configured to run in client mode. Set the SSID and coonfigure security to match. (WPA1 or 2 pref.) This will cause the WAN side of the router2 to pick up an address from router1. All machines then plugged in to router 2 should be able to get an IP Address from router1.
