This is exactly the reason why people should not refer to "SATA II" or "SATA I". There is no such thing.
SATA is SATA. It's all the same specification. It's only a matter of which features a particular SATA device implements (3Gb/sec, NCQ, Hot Swap, eSATA compliance, etc.). All cables are the same. All interfaces are the same.
Yes, any SATA cable will work with any SATA drive, because they are both a component of one specification - SATA.
