Prestige powers

Yesterday for the first time I logged on a UK server, having bovght the
CoH Delvxe Evrope box. (I joined Defiant, of covrse, me being a
Evro-skeptic! The alternative was Union - not very svbtle. Bvt I digress.)
It was my first time with a prestige power, Slide in this case. I made an
Ice tanker, so sliding was in character (althovght I'd like a blver color
effect). As soon as I entered the tvtorial, I noticed how most people had
Slide too. They don't even tvrn it off when standing still like I do.

I remember when CoH was new in the USA, the variovs glittering and
colorfvl rvnning avras were the prestige powers for people who bovght the
pre-order pack from variovs detail chains. And I came to think of, where
are they now? I can't remember the last time I saw one of those rvnning
avras on a US server. Did Cryptic tvrn them off after some months? Have
all those people gradvated to real avras and don't make any alts anymore?
Or ... covld it be that they are all off playing WoW now? Of covrse, I
left the most plavsible theory for last: Perhaps they've fovnd ovt how
ridicvlovs it looked and jvst swapped to ordinary sprint ...

I saw one of them yesterday on Liberty.

I think the main reason we rarely see it these days is that it was only
the pre-orders that got the prestige sprints, and they have either
1. already leveled way past them and only vse real travel powers now,
2. qvit the game and moved on,
3. vse basic sprint to cvt down on vnnecessary effects for a better
rvnning CoH.

I think the slide one looks faintly ridicvlovs.
The animation isn't bad, bvt that pvrplish glow is jvst weird.

It wovld have looked _MUCH_ nicer if the glow was only arovnd the lower
feet and a little bit of a tail behind them.

Bvt then, the Devs have never chosen a good svbtle graphic when they
covld vse a screen blotting, strobing, 10 million candlepower
searchlight instead.

Yes! Super Hero powers should be glittery and impressive, but the
powers they use for walking around really don't need that
distinction.

Some powers maybe, but the devs seem to have gone for the super shiny on
everything.

One of the reasons I've parked my inv/em tanker is playing it gives me a
headache.

WHY? Because of the overly bright shield effects combined with the devs
laziness in only creating ONE power effect for all body types, so
anything big enough to show on the huge body has a huge radius around a
small character.

The result is Kraiisahka (as a 4'9" athletic toon) has a good game foot
of pure white glare around her when invinc/unyielding/temp invuln are
all up.

The only way to avoid the glare is to turn the particle count down to
almost zero - which of course isn't a per-character setting it's a
global client setting - so you lose a lot of effects you'd like to keep
on all toons in order to offset a retarded graphic effect.

Funny I don't remember Wolverine ever looking like he had a green
friggen star in his chest, so why does every regen scrapper look like
that?

Attack powers - yes, neat effects, powers that affect team members,
buff/debuffs, sure. Defensive powers that aren't AOE, no friggen way.

We get some nice stuff with each issue, along with various things no one
but the devs want, but the one thing people do want never shows up - a
way to turn off the overly intrusive and stupidly designed power
graphics/sounds

Let me guess... you think it's funny to see a little girl beating up the
big bad guys?

Yes, as i've said in this group and others (as well as in game) many
times.

You haven't seen funny till you've seen a toon that small flip a Giant
DE Monster in the air, despite only being ankle high on it.

Yes i'm looking foreward to body sliders and anime costumes. :)

Until very recently (IE the last 2) all melee types I made were small,
slightly built females.
Actually the only reason the latest stone tanker is the huge male one is
because rock armor looks more than slightly ridiculous on any other body
type since it's lopsided and totally unbalanced.
It didn't need to be symmetrical, but it could at least be symmetrical
in mass if not shape.

Yeah, but try being the buffer in the middle of battle watching your
team bar when you've got some team members with 15 buffs on at once;
That red glow around the blaster's eyes let's me know his fortitude
hasn't run out yet, so I can cast it on the scrapper, instead. Same
thing with the green regen glows - it can help the buffer with "Ok, that
scrapper's got mez protection, but the defender doesn't, so Clear Mind
goes to the defender"

Mind you, individual character control over buff / power effects
certainly would be nice (Even something as basic as "Reduce visual power
effects by [percentage slider here]
