Hi All,

I need help!! I'm trying to setup a home network consisting of two computers. What I want to end up with is to be able to map network drives to each computer and share files between them. What I have done so far is disable the Windows firewall and uninstalled any firewall that I was previously running before on both computers. I have assigned IP addresses to each computer and have enabled NetBios over TCP/IP. I have also assigned both computer to the same workgroup as well. I am able to go on the internet and ping the IP address of each computer and the router from each computer without any problems. But I'm unable to ping the computer name or map the network drives. I also can not see the other computer on my network place. I've been stump at this for a little over a week now and any help would be appreciated.

My setup are the following:

Router: Netgear WGT-624
IP: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Computer 1:
OS: Win XP Pro SP2
IP: 192.168.0.100
Network Adapter: D-Link DWL-G132
Workgroup: MSHOME

Computer 2:
OS: Win XP Pro SP2
IP: 192.168.0.101
Network Adapter: Netgear WG111T
Workgroup: MSHOME

Let me know if you need more info.

Thanks,
Kenny

Turn on file and printer sharing. Uncheck simple file sharing.

As far as net bios, some router have limited support. If your PC's are set to static, as you indicated, you may need to modify your HOST file. Once you have mapped your drives they should auto mount with out any problem.

You may find it more convient if you add a NAS to you network. This way you will have a drive that will always be available, pc will not have to be on. A backup location, and some support FTP server.
