HD Failure? Maybe.

I started my computer today, and it wouldn't start. I had 1 beep coming out of my HD, just at random times. I hooked up my IDE HD, and got it somehow to boot of my SATA that's not working. I get into Vista, after a few minutes it hangs, and I have to restart. This is the second Seagate thats failed on me in 4 months. I've tried resetting the CMOS, and it doesn't work. I tried resetting the memory for some reason, still doesn't work. Please help me, before I go crazy and yell at some innocent customer service rep. at Seagate.

Try to boot in safe mode.
If that doesn't work download Knoppix or another Linux LiveCD. If the operating system loads and works okay, you need to do a repair install of Windows.

I think I wasn't clear. The HD suddenly can't be recognized by my BIOS. :x

Try reflashing the Bios with a floppy disk.

I updated to a newer BIOS yesterday, still same thing. My really really old IDE HD can't be recognized either, but it's really old. I've had this problem for a long time so it might be the drive. I'm going to go and buy a SATA so I can test my mobo.

You can try running the manufacturer's diagnostics, when the hard drive is working. Also you can run the Hitachi Drive Fitness Test.
