Ok i gave in and got my system it will be here tuesday. I did not want to sign up for a 60 day payment plan but i did i could not stand my p4 1.5ghz any more. So here is my new spec's
i have pc4200 512mb. i just want something to run cnc3 good. i mean i dont need all the power, I won't use it. so i dont wanna spend i bunch of money on something i wont notice a differnce in. i mean even games my computer does good i just want to get something new. it does not have to be the best, but i want something to run good. like a p4 i wish i knew if a celeron 512k would run cnc3 good. because if it did i would go that way and get other stick of 512mb and have a 1gb total
If that is the case then I really think you should wait till the Intel price cuts take effect. Then you can get a nice low end core 2 with a decent upgrade path on the cheap with the asrock board and core 2 I mentioned earlier.
What if he gets a X2 3600+ and board combo like you did?! Should be OK.
we'll i kinda like intel p4 the 65nm they are good for game's i used a p4 3/1mb/800 HT skt 478 and it was prescott. see the only reason i would go Dual-Core is if CNC3 used the 2 core's then i would do it. i want to have a nice smooth run's of CNC3 i should look that up i think i wll
if I were you I would get: the cheapest am2 board I could find, the cheapest sempron or athlon I could find and an extra 512mb. the money you have left you could sell your graphics card and get an used 6600GT or 6800GT AGP. that way you have the best overall gaming boost because you can`t expect any decent performance from a 9600xt anymore in recent games.
ANY athlon or sempron can keep up with the p4 3ghz (in gaming). maybe the sempron with a slight overclock, but it won`t be to far off. and they are even cheaper than the p4!
your own p4 cpu with more ram and a decent agp card will be even much faster than a 3ghz cpu and your 9600xt..... in games ofcourse.
i need to know if cnc3 use's 2 core's i have been looking around and cant find anything -.- unless i am looking in the wrong place's. but i would like to know because if so i will get a dual-core when they drop in price

For this budget, I agree. If you really want to stick to AGP for now, here's some options:
That's $152 before shipping. It gives you 1GB total PC2-4200 and AGP so you can keep your existing card. You can "upgrade" to a higher level AGP card (7600GT, 7800GS) if you need to at a later time. You can also upgrade to a faster dual core AM2 and PC2-6400 later on as well, but then you may as well build a whole new system by then.
now does RTS games go off of how much Cache is on the cpu or what? because i dont know. i am d/ling cnc3 it plays on my p4 1.5 just fine. but i need to know what RTS games run off the most
cnc3 will be heavily gpu oriented. I would go so far as to say that a processor change would barely help at all. I've never seen a game bottlenecked by the cpu, and I had a 7900 gt ko with and athlon 3000+.
I've used world of warcraft with my 7900, and I underclocked the cpu(E6600) to 720 mhz, and still got over 50 fps (70-80 normally)
all i can say is 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O thats crazy so if i got a celeron with 512k for very cheap or even a celeron with 256k like the one for $36 on newegg i would be good i mean i just play cnc3. i can always get a better video card but the 9600xt does good for now until. it die's then it will be pci-express time

Do you know what you are talking about; a 3.0G prescott will be slaughtered in gaming, even by an Athlon 3000+. This is from my experience and what the CPU charts say:
http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_ [...] model2=222 Now, what I propose is not any kind of future proof upgrade but since you want to keep your RAM and AGP card and S754 prices are dirt cheap:
Athlon64 3200+ (2.2GHz) for $46 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6819103035 and BIOSTAR K8NHA Grand Socket 754 NVIDIA nForce3 for $45 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813138240 With these, you will be able to squeeze the other hardware you have for only $90, even because, this Venice A64 will be able to clock at least to 2.6GHz and there no CeleronD, not even @ 4.5GHz can reach. It's FX-55 levels and not even a 3.73GHz P4 can cope with it:

Did you recently get this, is it a single stick, are you able to get another identical stick of memory so you have 1GB? Also, this is DDR2 yes?
Whatever you do, get either an Intel socket 775 motherboard that is compatable with Core 2, or an AMD socket AM2 motherboard. This way you have a motherboard you can drop in a faster CPU at some time in the future. Ignore the Celeron D's now, the P4 6xx CPU's cost no more and are better, or wait a month for the Core 2 price drop and get one of them.
we'll its 256x2 dual channel pc4200 i got to for free for doing some work on my grandfather computer so yeah but see if i use a p4 6xx series on cnc3 and use my readon until the new dx10 card's come out i should be ok. i dont need tons of power i will never use. i mean if the game is not based off of the cpu then i will just get a cheap cpu and mobo and new pci-e card
yes. but see i want something in socket 775 not 939 or 754 for that matter aleast with a 775 socket board i can get a board that will run v2d in the future.
Beachmarks mean nothing to me. it shows what it is good at and what it is not good at. if cnc3 does not go off the cpu i will jsut get a p4 or celeron until i want a c2d
It can take C2D CPU's, can take either DDR or DDR2 memory (but only 2 slots) and take take either AGP or PCI express. The other thing to note is the PCI express slot only works at 4x speed, but this only becomes an issue with very high end graphics cards.

Then you need to build a totally new PC; no reason to spend anything on what you've got, really.
I seriously recommend an athlon 64 over any p4, especially the x2 over the netburst cpus, far better, as Mrs.Bytch said, the x2 3600 is an excellent starting point, but you'll need a 939 cpu to use ddr ram, I suggest going with either an opteron 165 or 170, they are a bit expensive compared to regular dual cores, but the opteron's are the best of the crop, oc best, and last the longest. Or if you can wait, go for the 4300 after April 22, when it drops to a mere $100 (also wait until at least April 9th, amd price cut then)
we'll i wonder when they dropped that. one i was looking but it went down $10. but for $79 you cant beat that Sh*t but i think you are i should wait until april 9th or so. but i got to think about it
