This disabled person likes to check his email, and asked if he could just push the power button and the computer would proceed to open his 56K connection and then automatically open his email. Then he would like to shut down again just powering off. He can't use keyboard or mouse tho. I've provided the system for this:
XP2000/AsusA7N266VM
768 Mgs PC2100
56K modem
Windows XP home
Thunderbird

An even better option would be a CDR with the files burned to start automatically with Windows, that way it could be removed for normal startup.
I don't make a practice of shutting down XP so I can't really say over the long haul, altho it does seem to do a normal shutdown w/poweroff button. Any Ideas? :)

How do they hit the power button?

How do they browse the email once thunderbird is opened?

If he has some way to push the power button, maybe you could use this. Mount it somewhere he can push the buttons on it. You can program each key to perform a specific set of key comands. Its not hands free but its something.

Its not cheap but if it works well it might be priceless.
