OS of choice for gamer

I've just ordered parts for a new system, and I'm about to start using an AMD Athlon 64 chip, my first 64 bit chip. For a gamer, would Windows XP 64 bit edition show a significant performance increase over the 32 bit edition or should I stick with the 32 bit version for the time being?

It depends on if your games of choice support 64-bit. I would research that before making an OS decision. Then again, it won't hinder the games' performance either.
