Hi there, i've been reading this forumz since 2-3 month ago, and it have been very helpfully resolving a lot of my doubts, but i have an expecific doubt trying to build my new computer... (well, 2 doubts because there are no comparative graphics for them and i still looking)

I had build 2 computers before (1st Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz Lga 775 and the 2nd. Pentium D 820 2.8ghz, both sold in its moment) but since there are now in my dealer store, i want a Core 2 Duo or an AMD X2 instead...

First, I live in Mexico, so, the costs are a little higher than in US, my budget is a little low ($1400 USD), and i'm not thinking on OC (i'm not good doing it), so, here are my doubts...

Should i buy...
1. C2D E6400 2.13 2mb or AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ 2.6ghz 2x1mb (same price)
2. Foxxcon Nvidia 7950 GT 256mb or Sapphire X1950 Pro 512mb ($10 USD diff)

There could be options between buying C2D - nVidia, C2D - ATI, AMD - nVIdia, and, AMD - ATI

For this, the MotherBoards i could buy are:
- C2D and nVidia ... ASUS P5NSLI
- C2D and ATI ... Intel DG965RCYK
- AMD X2 and nVidia ... MSI K9N Platinium
- AMD X2 and ATI ... ASUS M2V

the other components are equal for both:
- 160 gb HDD (unknown brand)
- V-DATA 2 x 1gb DDR2 533 Mhz
- LG DVD 16x/40x
- LG DVD burner 16x/40x
- Amptron 1440x900 WideSreen Monitor
- Acteck 500W Power Supply "SLI ready"

Thanks...

ok. there are ddr2 800 in my dealer store and i can buy it (there is not much difference), thanks
and there are ddr2 667 too, but since i had read some reviews that said that ddr2 533 are ok for a 1066mhz bus, and that some mobos that do not run with 667 before a bios upgrade, so i was considering them in order to not have some problems.

the brand is correct, Acteck (www.acteck.com) they are good ones, and cheaper than Thermaltake, Antec and other GOOD brands. and the case is an Knox XP from Acteck too.

well, i get managed to modify my budget and i can afford to buy an 8800GTS 320mb, so, considering the configuration described below, wich processor will be better... C2D E6400 2.13 ghz 2mb or A64 X2 5600+ 2x1mb (since i can't find an comparative graphic chart for both processors)

Mobos:
- C2D ... ASUS P5NSLI with 2x1gb V-DATA DDR2 667
- A64 X2 ... MSI K9N Platinium with 2x1gb V-DATA DDR2 800

- HDD: 160 gb
- DVD: LG 16x/40x
- DVD burner: LG 16x/40x
- Monitor: Amptron 1440x900 WideSreen
- PSU: Acteck 500W "SLI ready"
- Case: Acteck Knox XP

Thanks,

The X2 5600+ outperforms the E6400 if you don't overclock. You can't find it on the charts but the specs (2.8GHz and 2x1M L2) and the core itself are identical to the FX-62 so on the charts you can compare the FX-62 with the E6400:

CPU Charts

It has the 2 CPU's to compare at stock speeds.

How are the prices balancing out?

I did see todays price on (NewEgg):

5600+ ($319)
E6400 ($218)

The 5600+ will do better, if you don't do OC'ing. Though, the better bang for the buck would be the E6400 between the two, with OC'ing that would match 5600 or E6600.

It would be best what you feel comfy with.

Well, has i said before, i live in Mexico, and the prices are quite diferent than in USA, but i can tell you that here, in my local dealer store, the X2 5600+ price is $284 USD and the E6400 price is $283 USD (in both cases, taxes included), so, there's any diference for me.

I hadn't see that THG had updated the CPU Charts (i saw it 2 weeks ago and it wasn`t updated yet) but i'm seeing now the graphics charts and it shows that the X2 outperforms the E6400, so, i'm going to pick the X2. thanks to all of you.

Gawd.. 1 buck difference, heh? I'd hate to see the price for the E6600 over there.

GL on your new build.

Say... If you wait till April 22, I wonder if the price cuts could help you out some. If you can give it some time, both may drop abit more in price. Just not sure how it would affect prices in other places.

the E6600 costs $403 USD (taxes included)

I even don't know if there's going to be a cut's prices like in USA, but one thing is true, i'm going to wait until May (i'm waiting for the profits now :D ) and i'm going to see what happens. and maybe i can manage to get an E6600 too. we'll see
