I'm writing this post because I'm tired of trying to build an ultimate system when I dont know what half the stuff means. I know a lot of you like INTEL but for sake of money I've got to stay with AMD.

OK the challenge: I want someone to list exactly what I need using all AMD stuff to build the best computer to date. Thanks!

Here's a quick problem. AMD does not manufacture the following:

Cases
Motherboards
CPU fans
Memory
Power supply units
Hard drives

AMD makes CPUs and Video cards, they also design chipsets.

For the sake of money, you never want to look at a single brand.

I messed up. With the processor being AMD... Like how much RAM would be perfect for now and years to come, what type of case will i need to fit it in can i squeeze by with a mid tower or will i need a full, which PSU to order how many watts is good, what type of fan (should i use liquid cooling), Its mostly for gaming so should I get 10,000 rpm/150gb?, Should I buy 1TB hard drive or is that overdoing it.... I just want someone to basically build what they view is an ultimate system between the price range of $2500-$3,000.

As a side note, what are you aiming to do with your computer. The needs of an extreme gamer are different then that of someone running a server. And for another side note, if you want the best, money would have to not be an option.

Best you could get from AMD right now would be the 4x4 platform with crossfired Radeon 1950 video cards.

Just be prepared to spend around $5,000 for it.

Am I reading this right? You want to build the ultimate system with a budget of $2,500-$3,000, but you want to stick with AMD for the sake of money? With that budget you should be able to stick an Intel Core 2 Quad in there in addition to an 8800gtx, raptor HDD, etc.

Should I have liquid cooling or something else?

This good if no liquid cooling: Fan Speed:3200 RPM
Air Flow Rate:33.96 CFM
Wind Pressure:3.23 mmap
Rating Current:0.15A
Rating Voltage:12V

I wish I was putting together this system! This is what I would start with...

Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 - $970
BFG 8800gtx OC - $579
Gigabyte 965P-DQ6 MOBO - $229
2 GB Corsair XMS2 PC2-6400 - $219

Add another $200 for HDD
$100 for DVD drives
$100 for case
$150 for PSU

All of this for about $2,600...give or take

ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless Edition Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail - $179.99

CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail - $169.00

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Processor - Retail - $465.50 In less than two weeks this price will plummet!!! Do not buy now!!!

CORSAIR CMPSU-620HX ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V 2.91 620W Power Supply 100 - 240 V UL, CUL, CE, CB, FCC Class B, TUV, CCC, C-tick - Retail - $149.99 after rebate.

EVGA 768-P2-N831-AR GeForce 8800GTX 768MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card - Retail - $539.99 after rebate.

...case, cooling and display are up to others...

...and I WOULD suggest considering an Intel system, because they are performing better at the moment. On the up side, a new AM2 system will be upgradeable to K10 in a few months.
