im formatting a new harddrive, and it finishes formatting i believe , but then it says "cannot install blabla file". i can't say exactly what file, because each time i retry, it's a diff. file.

i have no idea, i was thinking defective motherboard, but it goes into bios fine.
what other factors could cause this? ty

If any Drive is not plugged in correctly, it might format but not read and write. Happens more with floppies but all the IDE channels could be affected.

Try a couple of passes of Memtest86 to check the memory. If you have another HDD available to test, that would be great. Might be a problem with the motherboard, I've seen them sorta work before, in other words, look like they work, but cause data corruption, BSOD's etc.

"blabla.dll was not copied correctly.
The file setup placed on your hard drive is not a valid Windows XP system image. if u are installing from a cd, there may be a problem w/ the Windows XP CD"

Sorry, too many threads. Some people use a Linux CD to boot their system and in that way check out the hardware. Does a lot better job of autoconfig and will alert you if something is not right. They also all include a partition program that checks your hard drive and will format and or partition the HD for you with many possible options. If Linux had the game support, like WoW, I would never leave Linux.
