Hi,
I wanted to ask if anyone knows if the PC Wizard software is accurate about the HD temp.

In addition, I would like to know what a good temp range for HD is.

Thanks

I can't comment on the accuracy of PC Wizard's temp reporting, but the ideal temp for hard drives is the cooler the better. If your drive(s) are running at 50C or higher, be worried and be quick about getting extra cooling hardware into your case to get the drive temps down. if it's lower than 40C though, I wouldn't worry too much.

50c isn't all bad, nor all good.

Google Study of Hard Drive Failures.

Page 6

The range from about 37-38c to ~45c seems to lead to the lowest failure rate, but also note that 50c doesn't shoot the failure rate through the roff but beign too cold does.

Now, if it were 60c I would be worried, but 50c... that's a judgment call. I'd probably get the quietest fan that would fit and stick it on there, just for air flow, but that is about it.

Thanks for the Help.

well, my HD is a WD 1600JS.

I tried to find my HD temp with WD utilities:

Data LifeGuard.
WD Diagnostics.

couldn't find it there.

PC Wizard shows me 33 degrees in idle mod.
but even when run a virus scan on my HD. the temp remains the same.

wierd, isn't it?

Edit
after I tried speedfan as well, I get the same degrees on my HD.
I guess it is accurate.

thanks again
